About Us
Much of the work we do is related to Trap, Neuter, and Return (TNR). Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) is a humane and effective approach to managing feral cat populations within communities. The process involves the following key steps:
Trap: Volunteers use humane traps to capture feral cats in targeted areas. Traps are designed to be safe and do not harm the cats.
Neuter/Spay: Once captured, the cats are taken to a veterinary clinic where they are spayed or neutered. This helps control the population by preventing further breeding and has health benefits for the cats.
Vaccinate and Provide Medical Care: The cats are vaccinated against common diseases during the veterinary visit. They also receive medical care, such as treatment for injuries or infections.
Ear Tipping: As a visual indicator that a cat has been through the TNR process, the tip of one ear is typically clipped while the cat is under anesthesia. This helps volunteers and caretakers easily identify TNR'd cats in the future.
Return: After the veterinary procedures are complete, the cats are returned to their original location. Returning them to their familiar territory is essential for their well-being, as these cats are often not suited for life indoors.
TNR offers several benefits to both the cats and the community:
Population Control: TNR helps stabilize and reduce feral cat populations over time by preventing further reproduction.
Health Improvement: Spaying/neutering and vaccinations contribute to the overall health and well-being of the cats.
Behavioral Benefits: TNR reduces behaviors associated with mating, such as yowling and fighting, which can be disruptive to communities.
Community Safety: TNR helps address concerns related to the presence of feral cats while promoting a humane and sustainable solution.
Natural Pest Control: Feral cats often control rodent populations, offering a natural form of pest control.
TNR is widely recognized as a compassionate and effective method for managing feral cat colonies, contributing to the coexistence of these cats within our communities.
